| Subject: | Annual Report of School Food Safety Inspections |
Section 24 of Public Law 108-265 increased the number of required health inspections from one per year to two per year for schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program. We must report information on New York State compliance to USDA annually.
We are currently collecting data on health inspections conducted between July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008 regarding the number of schools that had zero health inspections, one health inspection, two health inspections and more than two health inspections. An inspection is needed for every building where meals are prepared or served. If you have any questions please contact Lindsey Tredo at 518-473-1525 or Ltredo@mail.nysed.gov.
If you are reporting zero or one inspection, briefly explain the reasons for not meeting the inspections requirement.
Remember to document your efforts of notifying the health department of the requirement to have two health inspections per year. Health Department inspections of Summer Food Service Program sites located in schools can be counted towards meeting the requirement.
The health inspection form can now be completed online. Please click here for instructions on how to complete the form online. If you do not have access to our Child Nutrition Management System, you may fill out the health inspection form and fax it to Lindsey Tredo at 518-473-0018 by November 5, 2008.
